About Alain Moreau

Alain Moreau is associate professor in the department of Stomatology at the faculté de médecine dentaire and in the department of Biochemistry at the faculté de médecine at Université de Montréal. He is also Assistant Director - Academic Affairs at the Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine Research Center where he leads the Viscogliosi Laboratory in Molecular Genetics of Musculoskeletal Diseases since October 2000. Professor Moreau’s team is interested in the molecular genetics of pediatric musculoskeletal disorders, particularly the etiopathogenesis of idiopathic scoliosis. Their work allowed the development of the first tools for the early screening of scoliosis and design of novel therapeutic approaches to prevent and cure idiopathic scoliosis. This discovery has been recognized by Génome Québec with the attribution of the Genesis 2008 “Biotechnology of Tomorrow” Award to Professor Moreau. The diagnostic tests are in clinical validation in Montréal since September 2006 and more recently in Hong Kong and Milan. In addition to scoliosis, Professor Moreau’s team is also interested in the genetic causes of osteoarthritis and the molecular mechanisms implicated in inflammation and pain as well as in the regeneration of musculoskeletal tissues.
