About John D. Rioux

John D. Rioux is a professor of medicine at Université de Montréal and at the Montreal Heart Institute, where he works as a researcher, the Director of the Genetics and Genomic Medicine Laboratory in Inflammation, and the Director of the Integrative Biology Platform. Since 2005, he has held the Canada Research Chair in Genetics and Genomic Medicine. His team is mainly interested in inflammatory bowel diseases, cardiovascular diseases (e.g. long QT syndrome) and rare diseases in Québec (e.g. congenital lactic acidosis in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean).


Since 1995, his research has focused on: (1) identifying genetic risk factors for rare, monogenic diseases and for common, polygenic diseases; (2) understanding the biological mechanisms by which genetic variants influence the risk of developing these diseases, through the development of human genetic cell models such as patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) models; and (3) identifying clinically important biomarkers, using multiomic approaches coupled with innovative integrative analyses.

 

John D. Rioux is a founding member of four international genetics consortia. He has over 200 publications to his credit, including several publications in prestigious journals such as Nature, Science, and Nature Genetics, which have been cited over 38,000 times by his peers. His research activities are funded by multiple organizations such as the US National Institutes of Health, the Canadian Institutes of Research, Crohn's and Colitis Canada and Génome Québec.
