CARTaGENE hosts its first Symposium

In Montréal April 16 and 17, 2015, CARTaGENE will host its first Symposium.
On the theme Cohorts, Big Data and Personalized Medicine: Challenges and solutions, the Symposium will showcase the resources and utilization of international, national and regional cohorts. The challenges of analyzing complex, heterogenous quantitative data will be presented and participants will be invited to take part in moderated discussions.

Génome Québec congratulates Dr. Thomas J. Hudson who was named Officer of the Order of Canada. Dr Hudson is President and Scientific Director of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research and a member of the Board of Directors at Génome Québec.
The Investiture Ceremony took place today in Ottawa, in the presence of the Governor General of Canada. The Order of Canada was created to recognize outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Pr. Bartha Maria Knoppers of McGill University named Great Montrealer

Génome Québec congratulates Mrs. Bartha Maria Knoppers, named 2014 Great Montrealer. She is the first woman lawyer to be honoured in the scientific category.
A lawyer specialized in the ethical aspects of genetics, genomics and medicine, Ms. Knoppers is a professor in the Department of Human Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University and Director of the Centre for Genomics and Policy administratively attached to the McGill University and Génome Québec Innovation Centre.

Montréal, November 14, 2014 – Génome Québec commends the dedication of the federal government, which today launched a call for proposals for projects aiming to reduce infant mortality and improve the health of mothers and children in developing countries.
According to Marc LePage, President and CEO of Génome Québec, this Canadian strategy is, for Canada and Québec, a golden opportunity to leverage the solid expertise acquired in applied genomics research in human health since the inception of Genome Canada.

Génome Québec is proud to recognize the participation of researcher Roger C. Levesque from the Institute for Integrative Systems Biology of Université Laval, as co-project leader of Richard Hamelin's project (University of British Columbia), with Cameron Duff from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. This project, issued from the Genome Canada’s GAAP competition, aims at early detection of pests in Canadian forests by next generation biosurveillance.

The team, composed of researchers of Université de Montréal, of CHU de Québec, Université Laval and Hubrecht Institute, has discovered a rare disease affecting both heart rate and intestinal movements.
