Friday September 30, don't miss the 2016 edition of the Rendez-Vous Génome Québec on the theme: "Improving Genomics through Collaboration and Innovation".

 

This year, the Rendez-Vous Génome Québec will feature ten researchers leading initiatives using next-generation "omics" technologies in very diverse areas of research. Keynote speakers are Stacey Gabriel (Genomics Platform - Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard) et Anne-Claude Gingras (Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute).

Two new female members join the Génome Québec Board

Montréal, September 16, 2016 - The Chair of the Génome Québec Board of Directors, Martin Godbout, is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board. Sophie D'Amours and Anie Perrault are both seasoned professionals in the fields of public administration, forestry, innovation and biotechnology.

Big data: Québec stands out in genomics in the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology

Montréal, September 13, 2016 - Génome Québec would like to commend the Québec research teams for their performance in the 2015 Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Competition (B/CB) launched by Genome Canada in partnership with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). In all, four projects were awarded $1 million in funding, representing one-quarter of the total federal envelope.

Congratulations to the following researchers and their teams: François Major (Université de Montréal) and Thomas Duchaine (McGill University), Jesse Shapiro (Université de Montréal) and Luis Barreiro (CHU Sainte-Justine), and the team headed by Jérôme Waldispühl (McGill University) who will undertake two projects, one with Nicolas Moitessier (McGill University) and another with Olivier Tremblay-Savard (University of Manitoba).

Genetic testing for dummies!

A DNA test to establish the paternity of an alleged father is not the same as a genetic test to determine someone's predisposition to certain diseases. Congratulations to Patrice Allibert and the team at GenePOC

Génome Québec congratulates Patrice Allibert and the team at GenePOC, who received an investment of $10M from the Debiopharm Group. The funds will be used to accelerate the development of the technology and the world-wide launch of its portable diagnostics system developed in Québec and enabling rapid microbial testing in less than an hour at the point of care.


The system was developed by GenePOC, a company funded in 2007 by Dr. Michel C. Bergeron of the Infectious Disease Research Centre at Université Laval through several Canadian funding agencies, including Génome Québec.
