Québec Researchers Ahead of the Curve in Disruptive Technologies

Joint federal and provincial announcement: Funding of more than $21 million for genomics in Québec

Montréal, December 8, 2016 - The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, and Dominique Anglade, Minister of Economy, Science and Innovation, announced today funding in the amount of $10.8 and $10.4 million respectively for genomics in Québec. This welcome news demonstrates the resolve of the federal and provincial governments to making research and innovation one of their core strategic priorities.

 
Daniel Coderre, President and CEO of Génome Québec, was pleased with our governments' renewed support of the excellent genomics work being carried out in Québec universities. The funding will primarily be used to finance genomics projects that aim to find sustainable, cost-effective solutions for the environment and natural resources.

Researchers Evaluate Cost-Effectiveness of Non-invasive Prenatal Screening in Quebec

Oct. 17, 2016

Adding non-invasive prenatal genetic screening (NIPS) for fetal chromosomal abnormalities to the current prenatal testing strategy in Quebec would be more cost-effective than current approaches based on blood tests and amniocentesis, according to research presented at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) 2016 Annual Meeting in Vancouver, B.C.

Two Québec projects win under the Canadian partnership program between academics and industry

Montréal, October 11, 2016 - Daniel Coderre, President and CEO of Génome Québec, is proud to announce the results of the 6th funding round of the Genomic Application Partnership Program (GAPP), a pan-Canadian Genome Canada competition. 

The first winning research team is spearheaded by Pierre Thibault of Université de Montréal with Jean-Jacques Dunyach of Thermo Fisher Scientific. The second team is led by Claude Robert of Université Laval with Brian Sullivan of the Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement Inc., Marquis Roy of Olymel S.E.C./L.P. and Claude Vielfaure of HyLife Ltd.
