Génome Québec welcomes genomics expert from France

Oct. 3, 2018

At the International Congress on Personalized Health Care, held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal from September 23 to 26, 2018, Professor Jean-François Deleuze, directeur du Centre national de recherche en génomique humaine, presented France’s 2025 Genomic Medicine Plan. Accompanied by Martin LeBlanc of Caprion and Dr. Tarik Möröy of the Montréal Clinical Research Institute (IRCM), Prof. Deleuze discussed France’s vision for the integration of genomics into clinical practice.

The discussion highlighted the difference between the French position, which focuses on a patient-centred approach and the clinical integration of genomics, and that of other countries. For instance, unlike the United Kingdom, whose strategy is more diversified, France has chosen to concentrate its efforts on developing a national medical and industrial sector in genomics medicine and on exporting this know-how.

The unique French approach was of interest to both panelists and participants, as it proved to be a source of inspiration for Québec and Canada.
