Stratégie québécoise de recherche et d'investissement en innovation 2022-2027 - A more than promising future for the development of genomics

Montréal, May 19, 2022 - Génome Québec welcomes with enthusiasm and confidence the new Stratégie québécoise de recherche et d'investissement en innovation (SQRI2) 2022-2027, launched this morning by the ministre de l'Économie et de l'Innovation, Mr. Pierre Fitzgibbon. With a planned investment of $7.5 billion over five years, the SQRI2 proposes five areas of intervention and 12 key actions, which aim to rely on innovation to increase the prosperity of all Quebecers.

"Over the past 20 years, more than $1 billion has been invested to support innovation in genomics, including $400 million from the Québec government, which took risks in the early 2000s and has continued to support the development of this innovative technology ever since. Thanks to the assets built up over time, genomics offers immense potential to help Québec create more economic and social wealth. The new SQRI2 2022-2027 and its $7.5 billion envelope will certainly allow us to pursue this growth and make this disruptive technology a concrete part of Québec's socio-economic development," said Daniel Coderre, President and CEO of Génome Québec.
