The 2022-2023 budget provides $1.4 billion over five years to support and research and innovation Génome Québec is delighted with this announcement.  

 

"Thanks to the Québec government's constant support over the years, Québec now has a critical mass of expertise and enviable infrastructures that allow us to position ourselves as a key player in the bioeconomy, and thus remain a leader in Canada and internationally. These new investments will increase our competitiveness," said Daniel Coderre, CEO of Génome Québec.

Laurent Tessier, saved by genomic profiling

Laurent Tessier, 17, survived a virulent cancer thanks to a genetic research program launched to provide young people with personalized treatments.

 

At CHU Sainte-Justine in 2012, this precision medicine research program in pediatric oncology (called TRICEPS) was a first in the field.

 

Daniel Sinnett, a geneticist, and co-director of the TRICEPS program oversaw this treatment within the program and stipulates that many other young people in Quebec have been saved by discovering treatment options tailored to each patient.

 

This article explains how precision medicine, through genomic profiling, has saved the lives of many young patients, including Laurent Tessier.
